Kym Winter (Clinical Psychotherapist) – AMEND Counselling Service
Having trained originally in psychology, I worked for a number of years in the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) with those recovering from traumatic brain injuries and psychotic episodes before going on to train as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist with the Arbours Association. Much of my working life was spent as a full-time counsellor and supervisor for university staff and students, and supervising a range of practitioners working with women and young people in the charitable sector or schools.
After heading up the University of Hertfordshire Counselling Centre, I have gone on to work as the Clinical Manager for a residential Therapeutic Community in London, working with people with severe psychological, social and emotional difficulties. I am an ex-chair of the Arbours Training Programme, and continue to teach and supervise both trainee and experienced therapists and counsellors.
Although I work with a wide variety of concerns, I have particular areas of interest including:
- working with young people and their families
- those caring for someone with a serious physical / mental illness
- supervision of individuals/groups working within the health professions
- self-harming behaviours
- concerns about sexual identity, orientation and behaviour
I practice privately in both St Albans and London, in the UK.
I am a member of the UKCP, Arbours Association, AAP and the College of Psychoanalysts (UK) and practice under the Arbours Association Code of Ethics and Practice. I hold full professional indemnity insurance.
